We are sadly going to have to cancel the XC race that was planned for today in the Reading Town Forest. The weather just doesn't seem to be cooperating for us this year! There really is no shelter at the town forest, and I would rather play it safe and prevent a bunch of kids from getting sick in the cold rain. Hopefully we can set-up another race on a week day towards the end of the month. I will keep you all posted.

First, please note the exciting additions to our meet schedule. I was bummed to see that the Mayor's Cup Races had been cancelled, but it looks like the kids will have no shortage of quality racing experiences. We are tentatively planning on the USATF J.O. preview meet in Amherst as a replacement to Mayor's Cup. More to come on that. I am happy to finally post some results from our first "time trial" of the year. Last Friday (9/14) we headed over to the RMHS track for an early season 1-mile test to gauge everyone's early fitness. There were lot's of strong finishes and happy faces afterwards. Congrats to our top runners Charlie Donahue (6:18) and Cat Almeida (7:46) leading the pack. Parker Middle School (22 points) edged out Coolidge Middle School (34 points) in the combined B/G "team" scoring. Next up is a 2km scrimmage with Austin Prep this Friday, September 28th at the RMHS track. Racing should begin around 3:30pm.

It's been a great first two weeks of practice. Our roster is up to 34 kids from the Coolidge and Parker Middle Schools here in Reading, MA. We have averaged over 26 runners per practice. As a group the team has already logged over 200 cumulative miles! The kids have been introduced to fartleks, interval workouts, speed drills, a time trial, and most of all, lots of nice and easy fun runs. I'm looking forward to our first official race in Wayland, just a few short weeks away. Stay tuned in for further updates.
